PILOT FEEDING PROGRAM FOR A PRIMARY SCHOOL

EDUCATION IN MALINDI

September 19, 2019

Desks:

Not every student in Kenya has a desk to sit at and do their school work.  Imagine how it would be to sit on a dirt floor or a rock or wooden bench to complete your school work.

Every Life Inc helps to provide school desks through the education fund.  Our October team will be building and providing 50 school desks for a rural school with dirt floors.

School Maintenance:

Schools in Kenya often go without floors, leaky roofs, and chalkboards, chalk, school books.  The Education Fund helps to provide these necessities So that students have an environment conducive to learning.

School Uniforms:

Students are required to wear uniforms to school in Kenya from Nursery School all the way through High School.  Each school is unique in their chosen color scheme.  If students are without a uniform they can be sent home until they can come to school in the proper attire. This can result in students’ poor performance or taking them several years to complete a grade level due to repeated absence.  Other students may have uniforms but they are tattered, patched, or ill-fitting because they are unable to afford new uniforms.  This can result in poor self-esteem and lack of dignity among their fellow students.  The Education Fund helps to provide school uniforms for students in need.

Teachers Salaries:

It is not uncommon for teachers to go unpaid for several months due to a lack of funding.  This results in teachers moving from school to school or quitting in the middle of a school year providing inconsistencies in the learning environment for students while vacancies are waiting to be filled.  The Education Fund can help provide funds to help keep teachers employed long-term.

Nursery School Sponsorships:

Nursery School education is required in Kenya in order to advance to Primary School.  Until this past year the government did not subsidize Nursery Schools and communities were left on their own to provide Nursery School education.  As a result, many children were unable to enter primary school.  There are still not enough Nursery Schools for the number of children.  Every Life supports Nursery Schools through sponsorships to help with this issue and to help impoverished families the opportunity to obtain an education for their children through supplementing the cost of school.

Why not home school?  It is not allowed for parents to home school their children.  Additionally, many parents are not educated themselves to provide any type of assistance with homework let alone home school.  Many students come from homes where education is not valued because parents have remained uneducated.
